Oversight Board Leadership Update
April 16, 2026
A message from Paolo Carozza and Pamela San Martín

We are delighted to announce that Khaled Mansour has accepted the role of co-chair following selection by our fellow Board Members and an appointment by our Trustees. Khaled, who joined the Oversight Board in 2022, took the co-chair role this month.
During his time on the Board, Khaled has shown exceptional leadership. He brings three decades of experience working on human rights issues, conflict and journalism, which could not be more relevant for the challenges in digital governance that we see today.
This month we also bid farewell to our extraordinary colleague, Evelyn Aswad, who has left the Board for personal reasons. Evelyn is an inaugural board member who also served for three years as a co-chair. Evelyn brought invaluable expertise on freedom of expression, human rights, responsible business conduct standards and multilateral diplomacy to the board. We are deeply grateful for her indefatigable leadership, vision and commitment to the mission of the Oversight Board. She has been a much-valued colleague and will be greatly missed by all of us here at the Oversight Board.
And, last but certainly not least, two of the organization’s inaugural co-chairs, Helle Thorning-Schmidt and Michael McConnell, have come to the end of their terms as co-chairs. Consistent with our Bylaws, Board members serve three-year terms and can serve up to three terms, for a maximum of nine years, while Board co-chairs can serve two terms for a maximum of six years as co-chairs. Since the very beginning of this institution, Helle and Michael played a central role in guiding our direction, shaping our vision and laying the foundation that continues to support its impactful work today. We are pleased that they will be staying on as active Board members for their third and final terms and that we’ll continue to benefit from their strong counsel.
